FOUNDATION for Windows
version 4.5 offers significant product
enhancements developed to
address the ever-changing
demands of the construction
industry.
FOUNDATION for Windows version
4.5 contains substantial product
enhancements and upgrades
from past releases. This version
consists of more than just merely
new product features. Extensive
research and development efforts
have unturned several financial
management functions that contractors
desire, yet have gone virtually
unaddressed in the accounting
software marketplace. Foundation
Software incorporates these tools
within this latest version of FOUNDATION
for Windows, including:
■ multiple new modules extending
beyond the typical
accounting requirements;
■ major enhancements to the
DataGenie Series of customizable
report, timecard, form,
importers and list designers
created for simplicity to the
end-user;
■ features that help contractors
accustomed to checkbook-style
accounting programs
transition more comfortably
to FOUNDATION;
■ technology advancements that
enable contractors to fully
capitalize on the power behind
FOUNDATION’s Microsoft SQL
database; and
■ functionality to meet construction
reporting regulations and
unique requirements of states
throughout the United States.
Additionally, extensive new and
enhanced features have been
added to address the needs of all
construction user subsets, including
office managers, accounting
clerks, owners, controllers, project
managers and estimators.
A small sample of system
additions introduced in this major
release of FOUNDATION for
Windows includes:
■ The ability to attach an unlimited
number of images and documents
to any maintenance
record. Contractors now have
the ability to attach pictures,
images and documents (i.e.,
digital pictures, Word, Excel,
CAD, PDF, etc.) to any maintenance
record within the software.
Because this is all user-defined,
the possibilities are
unlimited. For example, a user
can add a picture of an
employee and an image of
their driver’s license to the
employee record. In a job
record, users can add a folder
containing jobsite pictures as
well as a folder containing
documents of a predefined
category, such as safety logs,
RFIs, specs and much more.
■ The new Document Control
module helps contractors stay
informed through extensive
tracking of submittals, transmittals,
requests for proposals,
requests for information,
punch lists and other pertinent
project documentation.
Jobsite tracking and contact
management are also key
parts of this module.
■ Unlimited, customizable proposals
and work orders.
Contractors can design an
unlimited number of customized
proposal and/or work
order templates. The resulting
proposal/work order can
easily be converted into
customer invoices, other
proposals or picklists.
■ Enhancements for former
QuickBooks users. Because
many contractors switch
accounting programs
because they have outgrown
QuickBooks, FOUNDATION for
Windows includes several features
and functions designed
to make these users more
comfortable with the transition
from a checkbook-style program
to FOUNDATION’s more
date-sensitive, construction-specific
system. Two of these
optional enhancements are the “QuickCheck” function in
accounts payable, which
allows the posting of payables
and the cutting of a check
simultaneously, and “canned
financial statements” in the
general ledger, which allow
users to automatically create a
simple income statement, balance
sheet and statement of
cash flow without selecting
individual G/L accounts and
configuring report rows.
■ Two new report writers to the
DataGenie report designer
series. FOUNDATION for
Windows includes two brand
new ListGenies that enable
contractors to easily design
customized user-defined fields
(UDFs), employee, vendor, job
or customer lists. The new Job
Transaction DataGenie provides
contractors with tremendous
flexibility to design a multitude
of job history detail reports.
Additionally, enhancements
have been made to the popular
Job Costing DataGenie,
expanding the number of ways
contractors can calculate percent
complete.
■ An easy inventory importer.
The ability to import inventory
transactions from third-party
software (i.e., bar coding systems)
has been added, making
it extremely easy to upload
usage information for hundreds
or thousands of inventory
items at once.
