Build Reports with the Powerful DataGenies

The magic behind the report designer DataGenies is the use of the "data capsule" technology to simplify the creation of reports. Data capsules are pre-defined segments of data that are important to contractors. They allow even the novice user to easily select the precise information needed in a report's columns and rows.

In a typical report writer in other construction accounting software, if you wanted to report the costs by cost code in a current period, for example, you'd have to figure out - programmatically - where those costs were stored. Then you'd have to determine how to include only those costs for a certain cost code and incurred up to a certain date. Lastly, you'd have to program the right code to total up those costs.

In the DataGenie, that value is represented as a "capsule" - basically a box with the name of the value it represents printed right on it. You just click and drag that box to the report. If you want the name of the cost code to appear first, drag that capsule over and place it before the costs capsule.

Hundreds of options are available in the DataGenies, ensuring it will include the information you're looking for, but the capsules are organized so that they're simple to understand and easy to find. For example, original estimated labor, revised estimated labor, or current period labor can all be reported using the same "Costs" capsule. Once you add it to the report, you specify if you want current, revised, original, etc., and if you want all costs, just labor costs, just material costs, etc.

The DataGenies also include options to define the header of the report, how each column/row is formatted, and basic criteria such as the desired time period, whether sub-totals and grand totals will be included, etc. All reports designed through the DataGenies can be saved, reused, copied and modified.
