This session will address some of what contractors may anticipate in 2021 as the economy emerges from the financial setback of 2020 and the COVID vaccine continues to be deployed across the country. This session will include guidance for employers as more companies look to return to full staffs with the availability of the vaccine, insight on Biden’s relevant economic priorities, potential rise in mechanics liens and construction disputes as contractors juggle ongoing financial challenges and project delays.
Complying with prevailing wages is a necessary requirement on any public works project. While it sounds simple, there are pitfalls for exceptions that make compliance far from simple. In this presentation, we will address the complex legal issues under the Davis-Bacon Act and other relevant laws, such as who needs to be paid prevailing wages and on what projects, changes to prevailing wage statutes, and best practices for your compliance program.
Construction project time and schedule management is critical to maintaining profitability. This program reviews common schedule mistakes and recommended actions to document the impacts and changes to schedules. The program will also focus on understanding project delay generally, and a specific discussion on how to use and understand critical path schedules, look ahead schedules, and how to respond to contract notice requirements on delays and other schedule impacts.
This session will focus on how local small, medium, and large contractors can create partnerships or joint ventures with each other, or with out-of-town contractors to bid on large projects. Presenters will discuss a range of joint-venture strategies, including ways to mitigate risk, use of insurance, allocation of scopes and resources, and use of subcontracts. This program will also provide guidance on how joint ventures and partnerships can utilize minority contractors.
