Foundation Software has been a leading provider of construction software and services for over 40 years. We’ve always prioritized providing the construction industry with powerful software that takes the grind out of back-office operations; bridges the gap between office and field collaboration; delivers reporting and insights before small issues become costly ones — everything that creates business success.

Now with the emergence of AI, we have an incredible opportunity to help our users automate the repetitive, predict the preventable and give every stakeholder even cleaner data to act on. This is the standard we’re building toward as we roll out our AI Roadmap over the next 12 to 24 months.

This roadmap summarizes our initial strategic plan to leverage AI in a focused, practical, and scalable way. Like all development initiatives, we are keeping our roadmap fluid. AI is advancing rapidly, so to achieve the most desirable results for our users and the industry, we recognize the need to remain flexible with an openness to fine-tuning and adding additional projects in the coming months. The products and functionality we create aren’t AI for AI's sake. They will be purpose-driven intelligence built for the way construction actually works.

Released

Our A/P Automation tool that falls under the FOUNDATION Pay® platform was released in May.

This tool enables AI components to automate both invoice processing and approval workflow. AI agents will read invoices and instantly extract key header and line-item data.

Validated invoices are then automatically routed to the appropriate approvers. Approved invoices seamlessly integrate into FOUNDATION® accounting.

Projects in Flight: [Release in] 3 – 8 months

Foundation Software currently has two AI projects in flight that are planned for completion in 2026. These include a high-value AI Blueprint and auto-count functionality for McCormick’s estimating and takeoff software and an AI Agent that assists users with handling common accounting and HR-related tasks.

McCormick Systems AI Blueprint and Auto-Count

This feature will automate the labor-intensive task of counting electrical components in digital blueprints to eliminate manual takeoffs.

  • Phase one: Availability of AI-assisted symbol detection for common electrical symbols (outlets, fixtures, switches, etc.).
  • Phase Two: Expanded AI capabilities to interpret complex, multi-page blueprints and extract meaningful project data, helping estimators work faster and with greater confidence across every stage of project estimating. This will include both generative and agentic uses, shaped by industry needs, within core takeoff and estimating processes.

FOUNDATION AI Chatbot (Accounting and HR)

Two AI chatbots, one for accounting and one for HR, will leverage the system’s natural language and existing product documentation (user guides, manuals, etc.) to help users find answers and complete simple tasks.

Proof of Concept: [Release in] 12-18 Months

In addition to the AI development initiatives outlined, we are in discovery phase to develop an AI Financial Agent Assistant.

This initiative will help FOUNDATION accounting users automate routine accounting tasks, improve financial validation process and provide insight to support financial planning and reporting.

Third-Party Integrations

Foundation Software currently supports a wide range of partnerships and integrations, and our internal AI Research team continues to actively explore new integrations with third party AI tools and products that meet our standards. This is ongoing and will be vetted and introduced on a case-by-case basis.

Internal AI Usage

An important aspect to our roadmap is using AI within our own operations to accelerate and strengthen customer support and development.

As examples, we have already administered a new call routing system using conversational, predictive and generative AI to create a seamless support experience. It’s sped up response times, routed customers to the best resources and automated routine tasks for improved customer interactions.

From a development perspective, we are prioritizing AI initiatives to help our development team focus on leading-edge design and innovation instead of repetitive, time-consuming tasks. This will lead to enhanced team productivity, improve code quality, predicting potential system failures before they occur and reducing wait times for product release while maintaining reliability.

Improved Customer-Driven Decisions

At the heart of our AI Roadmap is the desire to drive customers’ success, enhance their experience with our products and services and create scalable, long-term solutions.

We’re excited about everything that’s ahead, we’ll continue to be transparent with new releases, and we encourage anyone with questions to reach out. The future of construction starts here.
